Classic book! I always loved these posters and books when I was a kid, so I just had to buy this book for my kids! I still haven't gotten them to master the technique to see the hidden 3D pictures, but it's still fun to look at the book myself! At least this gets them to get their eyes on something other than the ipad!

I have been a fan of these books for years! Now my students love them too! You have to practice a bit. First, hold your nose to the book, and then pull it away very slowly. It will take several tries. It explains it all in the instructions. You absolutely cannot study the picture to see a hint as to the "floater" or 3-D effect. I have tried and tried - which is part of the fun. I also love that they show you the picture "answer key" in the back of the book. (I got 3 of these books and am writing the same review for each.)

Boy I missed having this book on my coffee table. It's a blast seeing which of my friends can get it to work and which can't. Even more fun is watching their faces when they get a picture for the first time. I have yet to see someone put this book down until viewing every single picture after they figure out the trick!

I was looking at all the 3D picture book options and the reviews confused me. I wanted a good quality, high variety book and this turned out to be perfect. BTW, I am old and wear serious glasses and I can still see the pictures either way. My only criticism is that a few of the pictures are different than the actual image (a sphere is an oval, for instance) but it still provides enough information for me to know what to look for.

One of the images in this book was gifted to me in a frame, by my then boyfriend now husband. At first I insisted with tears in my eyes after days of staring and searching that there was no way to read his birthday message to me. But then at last... when I relaxed body and mind, it popped off the page like another dimension opened up. AWESOME!

This book takes me back to the 90's when they were popular. It makes you so excited when the image pops up! Love it. Plan on buying the other books as well.

I loved this book when I saw it in Barnes and Noble a few years back. Nice coffee table book for when one needs a break from the routine. Kids have fun too, trying to get the patterns.

Just as described. I bought this, along with a couple other interesting books, for guest. I placed them on a sofa table. This book has tons of hidden pictures. Really nice! Buy it!

This book is a tremendous disappointment. It is written at the level of a seventh-grade book report. Repetitive and boring. Wish I had my money back.

Though not my usual field of interest, I nevertheless found this book full of interesting information on a part of the world I honestly know almost nothing about. Theres a lot of information and I read it several times finding it easy to read.

So much information is given in the book that you come away having learned so much. There was so much I didn't know before I read it. This series of books captivates and holds your attention as you wander through the ancient world of Mesopotamia. It even cleared up for me the meaning of a word that can be redefined from a show seen on a television series today. This series of books is definitely worth reading.

Where it all began the cradle of civilization. From modern day Iraq where the Garden of Eden was located. Everything sprang from Mesopotamia & it’s effects are still being felt & seen toaayv. Excellent information contained in these books to get a great overview of this area so rich in history !

This set goes into the area that is now what is considered the Middle east. This area has a lot of history to which this set goes into. A recommended read.

I love these books. This is a way to learn about history with out getting bogged down.

The book "Made To Stick" is well-researched and the Heaths' have obviously does their homework; I like the concept of how ideas can be sold and delivered as persuasive opinions and, when powerful enough, change the course of a company's business. I was hoping for something more practical that a reader could put into practice but a lot of the examples were made to demonstrate how some companies thrived and others didn't. All in all, it's a good read but more for information than practical use.

Brothers Chip and Dan Heath in their New York Time’s best-selling book, “Made to Stick,” explore the stickiness of an idea. Those of us who spend time in the start-up world marvel at why one idea gains traction and other, seemingly better ideas, fall to wayside. The Heath brothers provide insights on this phenomenon and provide help for those bent on creating ideas that are “sticky.”“Sticky” ideas are understandable, memorable, and effective in changing thought or behavior. The six underlying SUCCESs principles for making things “stick” are:• Simplicity – Simple=core+compact. Find and share your core idea; make it simple and profound. “It’s the economy, stupid” (Clinton campaign, 1992) is a great example. The inverted pyramid approach which is used in journalism is a good tool to get your headline.• Unexpectedness - We need to violate people’s expectations to get them to pay attention. Break existing patterns to get people’s attention. Southwest flight attendants use humor (there are two doors on either side if you need to jump!) to hold attention when giving the pre-flight safety announcement. Humans adapt incredibly quickly to patterns. Consistent sensory stimulation makes us tune out.• Concreteness – You must help people understand and remember. Don’t use abstractions. Make your core idea concrete. Use common knowledge to make your idea stick. Our greatest villain is the Curse of Knowledge or when we assume everyone knows what we know or shares our unique perspective. We have to see it from the “others” point of view. We forget what other people do not know and slip into “abstractspeak.” Boeing’s criteria for a new plane was not “the best passenger plane in the world” but one that can seat 131 passengers and land on Runway 2-22 at LaGuardia. No ambiguity here.• Credibility – Help people believe by making sure your idea carries its own credentials. Pass the “Sinatra Test.” Examples offered include “Where’s the Beef?” and Reagan’s “Are you better off today?” Both were credible and resonated as they were based on common shared knowledge.• Emotional– Make people care by using the power of association, appealing to self-interest, or identity. “People donate to Rokia more than a wide swath of Africa”; “Honoring the Game” versus the use of the word ‘sportsmanship’; “I’m in charge of morale” as stated by a US military cook in Iraq. We must make people feel something to get them to care. We are wired to feel things, not abstractions.• Stories – Stories get people to act on our ideas. Stories act as a kind of mental flight simulator, preparing us to respond more quickly and effectively. Stories are told and retold because they contain wisdom. The Healths provide what they view are the three basic story plots – the Challenge Plot, The Connection Plot, and the Creativity Plot. Stories can almost single-handedly defeat “The Curse of Knowledge.” I have been involved in a ministry for people in career-transition for over fifteen years. We consistently advise those in-transitions to create stories to highlight their skills and experience when interviewing. It is well understood that interviewers will mostly remember your comportment and more importantly, your stories.A chapter is devoted to each principle with the authors providing context for clarity and understanding, examples, and tools to guide the development of a “sticky” idea.The Curse of Knowledge is what escapes most when trying to pitch an idea. It is the natural psychological tendency that consistently gets in the way of our ability to successfully create “sticky ideas” using these principles. Once we know something, we find it hard to imagine what it was like not to know. This knowledge has “cursed” us and makes it difficult to share our knowledge with others. It is because we cannot readily re-create our listeners state of mind. When a CEO discusses “unlocking shareholder value,” there is a tune playing in his head that the employees can’t hear. On the other hand, President John F. Kennedy knew that opaque, abstract missions don’t captivate and inspire people so he concretely challenged the country with “landing on the moon by the end of the decade.”Throughout the book, the authors present “Idea Clinics” which illustrate how an idea can be made stickier. Example: ”Do smokers really need to understand the workings of the lungs in order to appreciate the dangers of smoking?”The book itself is “sticky’ filled with stories of normal people facing normal problems who did an amazing thing simply by applying these principles, even if they were not aware that they were doing this. It actually makes me angry how boring it is.One chapter per letter of SUCCES (intentional).Each chapter is drawn out like no other.The basic premise is revealed, then come in some random stories loosely based on studies.It’s really a terrible book.The idea is cool, will look for a summary.

I hate reading. I had to read this book for a sales class I'm taking and it is actually very interesting and easy to read! It was enjoyable, kept me reading on and I was learning with every chapter! Great book for a great price...

Excellent kilim referance book, vivid color pictures, good information. We loved it. We shared this book with our friends and familiy.

There are 2 types of woven rugs: those with pile (an extreme example of pile is our shag carpets from the 1960's) and flat-woven like our Navaho blankets. While most continents contain countries or regions that weave textiles, kilim is the most common term for flat-woven rugs with a predominately Islamic heritage and design system from the Near-, Far-, and Mid-East. The author gives a lively and interesting history of the kilim and the peoples who make them, providing maps and discussions of each type of kilim. The details of bargaining for, bidding at auction, recognizing and valuing rugs are quite helpful. I recommend this book also for its beatiful color plates.

I cannot say enough good things about this book! I am so grateful for finding this guide that I am compelled to write my first review of anything, ever.After having an epidural with my first baby, I wanted to try a non medicated delivery with my second. It was hard to tell what I was doing when I had the epidural (although I was so thankful for it at the time), and I felt it stalled my labor enough to the point where I needed to have pitocin (not fun). I found this book so helpful because it taught me how to manage my pain through a variety of methods. I took any opportunity I could to practice these techniques in the weeks leading up to delivery. If I had a leg cramp, I tried to breathe through it. If I stubbed my toe, I tried to focus on another part of my body that didn't hurt. It got me in the right mind-set to be able to manage my pain and not completely give in to it when I finally did go into labor. Did it still hurt? Yes. But what I learned in this book kept me from being overwhelmed by the pain and gave me the confidence to deliver without any pain medication.Some reviews focus on the repetitiveness of the text, but I found this to be beneficial (though a bit tiring to read at points) because it stuck with me long after I had finished reading the book. Obviously, it won't work for everyone, but out of all the birthing books that I have read, this one stuck with me the most. As a bonus, my husband secretly read it without telling me until later and was a true champ during my labor because he understood what I was trying to do. I'd recommend having your support person read it as well.

A friend recommended this book to me as I was having a lot of fear and anxiety about giving birth. Some of the skills taught may seem a little silly, but they are all useful and help give you a really good understanding of how to manage pain. The descriptions and imagery used to describe the different phases of labor and how pain is experienced in each are fantastic. I no longer feel like I'm heading into the unknown, have some fantastic ideas for how I plan to manage my pain, and feel confident that I can have a very positive birth experience.

What I loved when I read "Birth skills" is the mix between what's written by the teacher, Juju, about the content of her birth preparation classes, and the input from her former student Sarah, who applied the various techniques.Also, for each technique (leg/arm rythmic movements, vocalization and breathing, visualization, use of stress balls...) there are a few short paragraphs from yet other students who also explain how they used a particular technique and how exactly it worked for them during their labor.There is a lot in there for birth partners as well, how they can help concretely throughout. It's wonderful to read about the very real teamwork between some couples during the birth process!It was very convincing to say the least - you do end up wanting to give it a try!What I also really liked is how Juju starts by explaining she has nothing against hospitals : there is not even a hint of guilt trip if you think about going for an epidural after all; rather, the point is for women to feel empowered and in control at the best of their abilities during the birth (there is no"hardcore" rooting for natural birth at all costs).It also tells you upfront there are going to be some repetitions because that's how you end up remembering stuff!I hesitated between Ina May's book and this one: but the excerpt I read from Ina May's book started with different women's long stories on their natural births, and this did not appeal to me.EDIT POST-BIRTH : I had a quick and natural labor, but gave up on many of the skills when the going got rough; I squeezed my partner's hands instead of stress balls, and what helped me most was concentrating really hard on exhaling loudly and focusing on a point (the faucet, or a painting on the wall)... as to the essential oils and music they were clean forgotten! Still, I came in confident and feeling prepared, and I am sure a lot is thanks to the book and did help!

Buy this book! The empahsis is on making it all the way with no epidural, but it's not judgy at all about those who do plan on getting the drugs at some point in labor. What I love about this book is it gives you real skills for dealing with pain, and instructions on how to practice those skills at home. That way you can get a good labor established before the epidural, which may or may not slow labor. You never know. But I feel really empowered by the practicality of this book! Also has great tips for partners.

Even if you have had a baby, and having another or about to have your first baby, then this book is a MUST BUY. This is an easy-reading book, but gives practical, easy advice and strategies of how to cope with the pain of labour and child birth. The authors give fantastic exercises to practice with, the understanding as to why you do something, and the how to do it, and even alternatives. The authors are not fanatical about giving birth drug-free, nor do they endorse drugs. This is purely about helping you cope with the level of pain, and making your labour and birth experience what you want it to be. Oftentimes, once you're overcome with the pain of labour and childbirth everything you learned or thought you wanted to do goes out the window. If you have certain ideas and certain decisions you want during your labour and childbirth, this book helps you stay in control and understand what you need to do to cope with the pain. It should be handed out to everyone on their first appointment with a doctor, it is a life-saving tool when in the throws of labour. Definite, definite tool to not live without.

4 weeks postpartum - I can say that this book helped. I still got pain meds and epidural, but I was in early labor for a whole week before she arrived (41 weeks and a day over due). I found the mantras, focus techniques, and tricks to be helpful. I didn't care for the back stories from other moms to interest me: overall I found it helpful and was glad I purchased it. Sharing it with my prego friends!!
