Too many times the second book isn’t as great as the first book but hunny....this was BETTER than the first book! The pacing is quick but not rushed, we get answers we wanted from the first book but they only lead to even more intriguing questions AND we get more world building and character growth! The Uncooperative Warrior is another great fantasy book from the author full of quirky characters, humor, and action. This is the second book in the series, so do yourself a favor and start with book one.

She is high in magic, dressing like a homeless person and has a streetwise lie always on her lips. Does she follow warrior orders? Yes, her way!

Loved this book. Couldn't put it down. And is ever so funny! A must read!! Grab it and I guarantee you'll agree with me!

Those familiar with the Kurtherian Gambit know what a strong female character is but in my opinion, liv is a adventurous butt kicking character you will love to know. This is a great read and I know you will enjoy it as much as I have.

After getting the book today, both my young daughters kept begging me to read additional pages and both separately asked if they could be the ones to keep it in their room to read before falling asleep. I thought it would be a good coffee table book in our house, but had no idea it would resonate with them quite that much. I purchased it after my youngest experienced some bullying at school after getting a pixie (very short) haircut that she was very proud about. I loved that the intro to the book happened to talk about girls and short hair cuts. After going through many pages of the book, my daughter asked if I could take photos of her being strong and she could write about how she is strong. So glad to have come across this book!

I sent this book to my six-year-old "No princesses!" and "No pink!" granddaughter Sophie because she is athletic: she swims, climbs, hikes, rides a bike, and competes with her older brother. She is who she is and is determined and fierce and joyful with whatever she attempts to do. Recently she's been shinnying up street signs in San Francisco, where her family lives. She made her own Halloween costume this year: the heroine from How to Train Your Dragon.The young girls inside this book talk about their lives in a paragraph accompanying each photograph. The book is divided into nine sections: Confident Is Strong, Wild Is Strong, Resilient Is Strong, and so on.I also bought the book as a Halloween treat for the three little girls who live in the house behind me, kindergarten through sixth grade. Their dad built a balance beam for them where they practice walkovers and other amazing gymnastics. Each goes to her own after school program: ballet, water polo, and gymnastics. Their dad told me that they all sat pouring over the pictures in the book, heads together, discussing what they saw. Perfection.

This special book has sparked many interesting conversations in my family--not only among the kids, but with my husband and I, too. We have given it as gifts and my 10-yr old daughter has shown it to every friend she has.I hope this is the first of many "Strong" books and would also love to see a similar book featuring boys challenging male stereotypes.A worthwhile purchase for anyone, but especially meaningful for kids between the ages of 6&16, IMO.

I first skimmed this book in a bookstore and then ordered here on Amazon for my 2 daughters - 8 and 5 years old. Looking through it originally, I liked format of the book, which is pictures of actual subjects doing something they love along with a quote from them. The positive messages are also the things we try to instill in our girls daily.What I didn't quite expect is just how drawn my daughters would be to it. My 8 year old loves to read, and after handing her this book she proceeded to spend the next 2 hours reading every page. She absolutely loved it and showed me all her favorite pages. My 5 year old is just learning to read so we read it together, and she was also very engaged. On pages where there were multiple girls she wanted to know who was the one quoted.Today, and I'm sure more so in the future, young girls are misguided about what really matters. So much in society is placed on what others think (especially given social media), and I'd like for my girls to have a better foundation than that. Seeing the positive & "can do" quotes in this book, spoken by girls that they can relate to, can help them form that inner strength that will propel them in their lives.

This is a gorgeous book full of inspiration. The pictures are unique and each one makes me think of a different triumph. If you are looking for a feel good, inspirational book of pictures this is it. It is not complicated but it is perfect. I really love it.

This book is just amazing. The photography is beautiful, and the short and simple quotes from all the girls are powerful. I love the few paragraphs of vision for each section, as well. It's a perfect book to flip through for encouragement and inspiration for any girl.

LOVE everything about this book. Love that promotes girls being unapologetically themselves and finding beauty in strength, courage, and kindness.My 9 and 11 year old girls browse through the quotes and pictures often and tell me how "cool" this book is. But that's my delivery guy's fault, as the shipping box was also damaged.)

Publius Vergilius Maro (70-19 B.C.), known as Virgil, was born near Mantua in the last days of the Roman Republic. Cy Twombly is a well-known American artist, whose paintings are both graffiti-like and beautifully subtle. He lives in Lexington, Virginia, and Italy.

The Georgics are not to everyone's taste, but it is an exquisite poem in many ways, and vastly influential. This is an excellent translation (Johnson). It is very close to the Latin, in fact it is sometimes so close as to make some lines temporarily puzzling -- and some of the word choices are very obscure English -- but it does give a feel for how much is actually being done in the very tight, mosaic-like Latin. A similar translation (also with facing page Latin) is David Ferry's well-known version, which is looser, but probably easier to read for the first time reader. Older, good translations are by the eminent Georgic scholar, Wilkinson (in an earlier Penguin edition with the most erudite introductions), and C.D.Lewis' earlier famous translation. The Oxford World Classics translation by Peter Fallon is just weird. For farmers, the line-by-line Mynors commentary on everything from soil types to astronomical signs is the bees' knees (for bees, check out book IV).

This is not a very good translation. The notes are fairly elementary and the vocabulary and syntax of the verse is obscure and confusing. Much better is L. P. Wilkinson's translation in an earlier Penguin edition. One nice thing about the present edition is the presence of the Latin original on the opposite page.

The reviews are from Mynor's commentary, which is not the Wilkinson Penguin.The Georgics is a deep work, all the more powerful in these days of environmental concern. Part of its merit is its meditation on what is and is not controllable in the human relationship with the land. It is hard to believe that someone could write so beautifully about soil and pigs and vines, but Virgil accomplishes this and much more. It has for two thousand years been one of the touchstones of western civilization, so might be worth a little of your time! The best parts are in book 4 -- the allegorical story of beekeeping, which (among other descendants) finds a later echo in Book 1 of Paradise Lost -- and the exquisite story of Orpheus and Eurydice, itself embedded in the story of Aristeus and Proteus.Wilkinson is one of the deans of Virgilian scholarship, and it shows here in his introduction (there could have been more notes -- for notes, head for Mynor), and the translation is accurate and in places quite beautiful in its own right. Of the other translations available, Lewis is an old favourite, but I am now fond of David Ferry's version. David Ross' book on the Physics and Poetry of the Georgics is worth having as a resource to hand.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful edition of the poet's work translated by Dryden and published by the Heritage Press in 1953. The publisher shrewdly chose an Italian,Bruno Bramanti,to furnish illustrations that are grave and lovely.I prefer this translation by Dryden for its' structure,but there is an American-flavored rendering by Janet Lembke that is sensitive, and modern in the best sense of the word.That said,I find Dryden's trumpet of rhyme irresistible:What makes a plenteous harvest,when to turnThe fruitful soil,and when to sow the corn;The care of sheep,of oxen and of kine,And how to raise on elms the teeming vine;The birth and genius of the frugal bee,I sing,Maecenas,and I sing to thee.The translation is majestic,stirring and timeless.It is a fair tribute to Tennyson's description of "Roman Virgil" as "the lord of language".You will seldom own a more beautiful book.

The warm and friendly poet from Mantua, Publius Virgilius Maro, in his didactic poem entitled the "Georgics," covers topics relating to farming: in book one he deals with crops, in book two trees and shrubs, in book three livestock, and in book four bees. While several scholars have regarded this work as one of the best Latin poems ever, it must be taken into account that it is, nevertheless, far less entertaining than his famous "Aenied," and much more difficult to read. At times, in the "Georgics," Virgil echoes with that same brilliance many people have come to love in the "Aenied." I was hoping this book would paint a picture of the true challenges they faced and the things they accomplished in the face of determined public opposition and outright sabotage, in some instances. I was first surprised that the author would use the same title as a much better book "Fly Girls" about the WASPs of World War II. Things got worse when I started reading the book. For a technical subject such as aviation, one would have thought that the author would have had someone with technical knowledge do at least a quick bit of proofreading. Somehow airplanes became "airships." Huh? Airships are dirigibles or blimps. The repeat of that error became painful. Single-engine airplanes were described as having throttles, plural, while multi-engine airplane had a throttle, singular. Technical details regarding aircraft and what goes on in flight were repeatedly wrong - yet the author stressed the importance of the fact that each of those incredible pilots spent an exhaustive amount of time assuring that they didn't miss any technical details when flying. If only the author had done the same.While it moved the story along, a fair amount of the details about the pilots' lives read a bit like a costume drama.Much is made of Louise Thaden's husband developing an all-metal airplane, as if he were somehow cutting edge. He wasn't even close - the Germans were making all-metal transports in World War I and Henry Ford's captive company, Stout, was making them by the mid-1920s.The author repeated the mistaken claim that Richard Byrd was the first to fly over the north pole. That claim was debunked years ago and shouldn't have been in a well-researched book.It might have helped to describe some of the airplanes flown by the women more carefully as some of them were simply awful, requiring a huge amount of skill to fly, and land, safely. Most of the airplanes designed in the 1920s and early 1930s had marginal or worse stability in various axes, lousy control harmony and systems (fuel, electrical, hydraulic) that could be confusing, counter-intuitive and just plain dangerous to a pilot who did not fully understand the details. Such details alone would help to describe just how great the pilots who flew those airplanes great distances (in often hideous weather when weather forecasting was essentially nonexistent) truly were.For someone unfamiliar with the incredible women portrayed in this book, it's a good place to start to learn about them. I'm hoping someone will eventually do a definitive book on those great women. I'm just disappointed I spent the money on this one.

Really, REALLY enjoyed the book. Over the years, I've come to learn snippets of each, but this book has everything in one place. Each of their stories are fascinating but in this book, Mr. O'Brien has spent the time to chronicle much more of the details of the girls that helped to bring aviation into everyone's life. Their stories seem complete .... the accomplishments, the setbacks and in a few cases, the despair each endured in their individual struggle to be recognized as a credible contributor. I'm certain you will enjoy this book if aviation is of interest.

An amazing, heart-pounding, page-turning, tear-jerking true story. Keith O’Brien’s extensive research and wonderful writing has brought these forgotten women (and men) back to life. Many of us know a bit about Amelia Earhart, but can we name any other pioneering aviators (man or woman) from this age? Get to know the incredible women who fought to fly and to gain respect - you won’t be able to put this down and you will miss them when you finish the book!

And 5 stars beyond those! This book is a well researched and indexed history of a forgotten battle for women’s rights. Not only a great read, I found it hard to put down. So glad I decided to read it.

Read for book club. Was recommended by Parade Magazine. This book was written in reporter writing style meaning all overall details were given even if the details did not add to the story; therefore although this is a short book, under 200 pages, it was a hard read. When this book was reviewed by our book club, the majority of our members agreed. I would not recommend this book.

A classic cover the pretty ones and ignore everyone else treatment of an important piece of history. Pancho Barnes gets one sentence in this book. Other important female aviators of the day are similarly ignored of given no treatment in this lazy book. There are better books about this event.

This book was very enjoyable and so well researched. I never knew there were so many women who were willing to attempt the things that these pilots dared to do! Very courageous and completely in love with flying.

This book🙏🏻👏🏻❤️ Such a fascinating read of a story so needing to be told! These women were true pioneers and O’Brien does a masterful job of bringing them to life and securing their place in history. An absolute must read.

Classic book! I always loved these posters and books when I was a kid, so I just had to buy this book for my kids! I still haven't gotten them to master the technique to see the hidden 3D pictures, but it's still fun to look at the book myself! At least this gets them to get their eyes on something other than the ipad!

I have been a fan of these books for years! Now my students love them too! You have to practice a bit. First, hold your nose to the book, and then pull it away very slowly. It will take several tries. It explains it all in the instructions. You absolutely cannot study the picture to see a hint as to the "floater" or 3-D effect. I have tried and tried - which is part of the fun. I also love that they show you the picture "answer key" in the back of the book. (I got 3 of these books and am writing the same review for each.)

Boy I missed having this book on my coffee table. It's a blast seeing which of my friends can get it to work and which can't. Even more fun is watching their faces when they get a picture for the first time. I have yet to see someone put this book down until viewing every single picture after they figure out the trick!

I was looking at all the 3D picture book options and the reviews confused me. I wanted a good quality, high variety book and this turned out to be perfect. BTW, I am old and wear serious glasses and I can still see the pictures either way. My only criticism is that a few of the pictures are different than the actual image (a sphere is an oval, for instance) but it still provides enough information for me to know what to look for.

One of the images in this book was gifted to me in a frame, by my then boyfriend now husband. At first I insisted with tears in my eyes after days of staring and searching that there was no way to read his birthday message to me. But then at last... when I relaxed body and mind, it popped off the page like another dimension opened up. AWESOME!

This book takes me back to the 90's when they were popular. It makes you so excited when the image pops up! Love it. Plan on buying the other books as well.

I loved this book when I saw it in Barnes and Noble a few years back. Nice coffee table book for when one needs a break from the routine. Kids have fun too, trying to get the patterns.

Just as described. I bought this, along with a couple other interesting books, for guest. I placed them on a sofa table. This book has tons of hidden pictures. Really nice! Buy it!

This book is a tremendous disappointment. It is written at the level of a seventh-grade book report. Repetitive and boring. Wish I had my money back.

According to the auhtor the arabs discovered everything. Totally bioused and with no references

Though not my usual field of interest, I nevertheless found this book full of interesting information on a part of the world I honestly know almost nothing about. Theres a lot of information and I read it several times finding it easy to read.

So much information is given in the book that you come away having learned so much. There was so much I didn't know before I read it. This series of books captivates and holds your attention as you wander through the ancient world of Mesopotamia. It even cleared up for me the meaning of a word that can be redefined from a show seen on a television series today. This series of books is definitely worth reading.

Where it all began the cradle of civilization. From modern day Iraq where the Garden of Eden was located. Everything sprang from Mesopotamia & it’s effects are still being felt & seen toaayv. Excellent information contained in these books to get a great overview of this area so rich in history !

This set goes into the area that is now what is considered the Middle east. This area has a lot of history to which this set goes into. A recommended read.

I love these books. This is a way to learn about history with out getting bogged down.
