Great history program for kids. My 6 year old enjoys is but is probably a tad young, I’d recommend third grade to begin this

The day I got this book, I oped it to look through the book and all the beginning pages started ripping from the binding. I needed to start school and couldn't waste more time doing a return re-order

As homeschoolers we love the ability to get super involved in a subject and let that topic fill our children's imaginations as they discuss and think about it for weeks at a time. "The Story of Civilization" Volume One was so well done, not only on the CD, but with the associated posters, textbooks, and activity books and teacher guide. The kids (ages 3-9) cheered to get in the car and became engrossed in the storytelling every time. They were so proud of their crafts and reciting their history lessons to their dad at dinner, it was wonderful for the whole family! As the kids would finish a disk, they would "lend" it to dad to listen to on his way to work. A trip to soccer, the Y, or a doctor's visit could all be made more enjoyable, educational, and fun with this wonderfully well done series. It was so amazing we got the "Story of the Bible" and "Story of Civilization Vol II." All three were great investments into our family's education and an answer to prayer!

We have used Story of the World in our homeschooling...until now! Finally a great history resource from a Catholic worldview. It isn't a "textbook" but a highly enjoyable and well written adventure through history! Even the audio recording is superior, as it is a dramatized version that is highly engaging for the kids and flows beautifully. We are looking forward to volume 2.

We bought the audio version of "The Story of Civilization" to play in our car on trips for the children, ages 6 and 9. Very well done audio book, with action scenes, human interest highlights, and lots of sound effects to keep everyone interested. Everyone in the car listened and learned a lot (even the parents), and that dead time between places on our trip was kept vibrantly alive! Excellent history lessons, so we will be buying Volume II as soon as it is out in the spring. Highly recommended for educational, as well as recreational listening.

This is an excellent review of ancient history, especially when paired with the audiobook and activity book (best for younger kids). The text is engaging and well-written and is a solid spine for a history homeschool curriculum. I use it with both my 2nd grader and 4th grader, but it could easily be used with older kids as well.This doesn't come with lesson plans, but use this book in the following manner: On Monday, I read and discuss a chapter while they work on the corresponding coloring sheet from the activity book (I save the audiobook for car trips). On Tuesday, they narrate the chapter back to me and we discuss it a bit further. They also write down important dates on their timelines. On Wednesday, they do a bit of written work- they either do a brief outline in their notebooks, or I give them a notebooking page and they write a short narration and draw a picture. Depending on how interested they are in the events being covered, I might show a documentary or read other books that compliment the topic at hand.Tan has done a very thorough job with these books- they have managed to pack a punch without overwhelming the reader. I will be buying the next volume for the 2018-2019 school year.

Our family loves this entertaining, yet educational story of ancient history. While our favorite is to enjoy the audio cd version in the car, it is wonderful to have the written text for storytime and study. I often catch my daughters looking through this on their own time. This is our favorite of the history "spines" (CHOTW, SOTW, etc.).

We purchased the Audible version of this book as a history supplement and my kids LOVE listening to it in the car! The stories are very engaging.

Great inspiration here, even though the title is somewhat misleading. Ms. Russo uses a combination of wet felting and needle felting techniques to make her creations. Being new to needle felting, I wanted some instructional books that went beyond the cute critters theme most felting books focus on. This book definitely does that!My problem is that wet felting takes another set of tools and considerably more prep work than simple needle felting does. Ms. Russo describes the process well, and lays out the basic supplies you’ll need at first, along with more advanced equipment you might want to invest in as you progress. However, at the stage I’m at, having just discovered needle felting for myself a month and a half ago, this is way more hassle than I am going to go through until I have a few more projects under my belt!I do think there are some great projects in here, and definitely ones beginner wet felters could complete, so if the time comes when I’m ready to try wet felting, I’ll buy the supplies Ms. Russo recommends and get to it!

I pre-ordered this book a year ago tomorrow, it arrived 3 days ago, and it was well worth the wait. I saw some of this artist's pieces at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival a number of years ago and that memory prompted me to order this book. It has been quite awhile since I have done any needle felting, but this book has inspired me to do some more soon. The author gives complete, clear, and easy to follow instructions with many great photos. She starts with relatively simple projects, gradually working up to more complicated ones, building your confidence to do your own creative designing. I would definitely recommend this book.

I recently bought the author's other book Needle Felted Menageries. I am getting pretty accomplished at making animal sculptures, but wanted to learn how to wet felt. Thanks to the author's clear instructions I now know how to wet felt. This book has great projects that teach techniques and inspire my creativity. Her art work is awesome and I would love to see her art in "real life". I have a lot ideas bumping around in my head and this book gives me a technical starting place to make my own creations. The projects start with beginner to advanced like classes would. Ms. Russo is an excellent teacher...All I need is more time, unfortunately I need to work to buy the wool.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a beginner needle felter and the techniques within really made it simple and easy to follow through with.

Initially, I was not too impressed by the items presented, but as I went further into the book, it became much more beautiful and interesting. This is a book that will be kept in my felting library.

I love this book full of exciting ideas and inspiration for your own designs. There are many felting books out there, but this one will definitely be a keeper.

I waited a long time for this, because i preordered it. I thought it would give some tapestry line art to use in felting. I'm an experienced felter, so expected this to be a resource for design. Instead, this was a very basic intro to felting, and tapestries only make up a small part of the book. Additionally, the author shows photos and basically says "draw your design on marker on the wool then needle felt it". I could have figured that out on my own. I was really disappointed and don't recommend it.

I absolutely love the way this is set up- it describes the pose first, and then names it with a cute little bit about the animal. Very fun. The illustrations are great as well.

What a great book! We purchased for our nieces since they love doing yoga with me. They really enjoyed doing the poses while I read the book. I love this idea!! The book was illustrated nicely. I was impressed and would definitely recommend. (Also, it's simple enough that kids can easily follow along if they have never done yoga poses before.)

Such a great introduction for young children to yoga. My 20 month old can quite move his body in all the positions but does enjoy making the animal noises and imitating the children when he can. We'll be using this for years to come as his gross motor skills improve.

This is a great little book with beautiful illustrations and the delivery of the poses in terms of the build up to them, the instruction for the poses, and the way the page turns to the final pose with it's name. Delightful and artful! I highly recommend!

My 1st grade Daisy Girl Scout Troop loved this book! They loved imitating the characters posing in the book, and they enjoyed guessing which animal each character was posing like before I turned the page and revealed it. Very big hit with the 6-7 year old girls.

Great book for young yogis (2-4 years) I use for kids yoga to show the kids the poses and act out. 4 or 5 poses are outlined In the book.

I have been doing this with my son for the past 4 months (he is almost 2) and he LOVES it. We get on our mats and read the book and do the poses. He will go get the book and bring it to me when he wants to do yoga.

My son really got into practicing his yoga moves after we read this a few times. We haven't read it in a while, though, which tells me it isn't his favorite. We HAVE read The Little Red Fish by Tae-Eun Yoo many, many times, so go get that one, too!

It is odd to review a dictionary as they tend to be obsolete in todays age of being to search the world wide web for anything or even simply asking siri. If I had a siri when I was in high school I could've graduated with honors. I purchased this dictionary as it was mandatory for a class. I must say if you are doing the same thing, I would recommend going to the local book store and purchasing one there. The words portable are deceptive as this is a large book and does not easily fit in a purse.

This is one of the very best purchases I've made. The large print is bold and very easy to read. The book is a good size but not overly cumbersome. I will recommend this book to anyone who has a difficult time reading the normally too small print. Every thing about this purchase was the best. I had no idea that Webster even had this type of reference book and I would have liked nothing better than the Webster dictionary with the added plus of "no eye strain" as an extra. Thanks to Amazon, finding this was even more simple.

Anyone with poor eyesight will LOVE the LARGE PRINT TYPE! I have just had cataract surgery on BOTH eyes, and even with reading glasses, couldn't see "regular" sized print. Voila! Now, without using a magnifying glass, I can read EVERYTHING clearly. Stop straining your eyes - Order this dictionary right away!

I bought this dictionary for my son to keep in his desk at school. Even though he does not need glasses, I bought the large print edition so that he would not have to strain at all. We purchased Webster's Student Dictionary and this portable one, and the portable one is actually thicker than the student edition. It is a bit narrower and it has a soft cover (the other has a hard cover). Between the two, I would definitely choose the student edition because it has synonyms, however, this is a really good dictionary. I took off one star because it is not portable...unless you carry your bookcase on your back :-). Certainly a great choice for anyone who does not want to strain his or her eys when using.

I don't use word correct on my pc and this one works but i really need to get a more modern one because this one has a lot of words that just aren't there.A lot of folks have forgotten how to use on e of these.

The dictionary was a bit bigger than I thought it would be. Large print is very readable. I bought this for my 91 year old mother. She thinks it is fine.

Got this for my son the words are pretty large he has no trouble using it the reason he didn’t get more stars was because it came damaged as if it was dropped very hard

When you have a specific question about something in photography (or anything else for that matter) everyone will always have an opinion. Great example are online forums where everyone will have their own opinion on something.With this book (I have the kindle version) you will get Tony's and Chelsea's professional (true and tried) opinion on just about any equipment you will need. The guide is very honest, doesn't pick a side (Canon or Nikon) and even recommend some third party companies because they are the best bang for your buck. They give suggestions for people just starting out with a very small budget all the way to the pros with $$$ to spend.What I personally like about this book is the fact that it's almost like a FAQ book where two professionals that make a living from photography answer all the questions you might have about every type equipment you can imagine for this field. Great reference book when you are ready to buy a flash. or upgrade your monitor, or go to a full size camera, or a new lens, or tripod... you get the point I think.You also become part of a very unique community where Chelsea and Tony both will answer your questions if you happen to have any. It's almost like joining a very big family.I highly recommend ALL their books to people just getting into photography to pros looking to get new gear.Just see for yourself about the book. Take a look inside since you can do that on amazon. You will love the rest of the book.Let me also add the book is VERY easy to read. it's not 'dumbed' down, but just everything is explained really well which won't confuse a novice photographer.

I believe Tony managed to share his long term experience very well in this book. The book contains a lot of details about almost all brands involved in this industry, recommendations for what to buy and why.I believe in 2016 and 2017 a lot of gears hit the market as well, I believe Tony should update the book with the latest gears available. There is a lot of new players now we can not ignore like Godox, yes small company but they are growing very fast and they are selling much, so I believe it is worth to talk about such companies when it comes to gears. One thing very important I didn't not saw any talk about camcorders for video, I believe camcorders is the best solution for video then mirrorless then DSLR.ThanksAmmarTechnology

This book is comprehensive enough to get anyone started in the current world of creative photography, as it exends beyond point and shoot vacation and memory recording. It doesn't try to be exhaustive, a wise choice. But it does recognize the need for a broad perspective. I love that. Could use some more zing in it's Tx BBQ sauce though, if you follow me Tony. And maybe you could add an anecdotal discussion of a few key pieces, like one per category, to help people broaden their sense of the possibilities.

Great book if you are in the market for a camera or new gear. Great advice and easy to understand pros/cons/reviews of many cameras/accessories/lenses on the market. He tells you the best options for your budget and photography type and let's you know when it makes sense to go with a less expensive brand for some items. I found this really helpful as I chose my new camera, flash, and lenses. I will go back to it every time I consider buying something new. I love Tony and Chelsea... They explain things in a way that is easy to understand. You can't go wrong with their books. (My next purchase is Chelsea's Lightroom book... Time to learn how to do post-processing.)

Tony's Guide and video that demonstrated the horizontal center post feature that just does not stand out in other on-line descriptions.If I have to fault anything about the Kindle version of Tony's Guide, it might be that the illustrations occasionally obscure a little of the text when viewed on my Fire. The work round is simple - rotate from portrait to landscape, or the other way round and voila. If this creates a problem, why not buy both a print and digital copy? It might be worth a little more to have ready access to Tony's Guide any time you are considering your next photographic equipment from a lens filter to a top of the line system.

Instead of a mature, insightful look at creativity and the value of art--as was my take-away from the book’s glowing description--“Art Matters” struck me as banal, sophomoric, and over-priced. It may be inspirational to a teen that has never been encouraged to pursue his or her creative interests. But it failed to move me. And what’s with “Make Good Art”? That’s pretty trite. Who’s to judge what’s “good”? If one is moved to create, then create with passion and mindfulness! Relish the process and not the results. Art does matter.

There are two reasons why you would buy this book: you’re a big Neil Gaiman fan, or you’re a huge Chris Riddell fan (Riddell illustrated the book).I follow both Gaiman and Riddell on Twitter, Gaiman because he’s an interesting person and says interesting things about writing, and Riddell because he’s such a brilliant artist and sometimes posts videos of his pencil drawing. I got caught up in the release tweets for this book and bought it because I’m passionate about art.The book is a collection of four essays Gaiman wrote between 2011 and 2015, beautifully illustrated by Riddell. Riddell and Gaiman frequently collaborate; they have a very successful working relationship.The first three essays were merely okay; they didn’t tell me anything new. I was disappointed and feared that this quick book, readable in one short sitting, was not worth my time.However, the final essay redeemed the book for me. I won’t reveal everything I liked, because I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone else; but here are three highlights:• “Something that worked for me was imagining that where I wanted to be. . . was a mountain. A distant mountain. My goal. . . And when I truly was not sure what to do, I could stop, and think about whether it was taking me towards or away from the mountain.”• “My first book—a piece of journalism I had done for the money, and which had already bought me an electric typewriter from the advance—should have been a best seller. . . I decided that I would do my best in future not to write books just for the money. . . If I did work I was proud of, and I didn’t get the money, at least I’d have the work.”• “The old rules are crumbling and nobody knows what the new rules are. So make up your own rules.”The book is worth visiting your local library for.

This little book is a wonderful collection of great illustrations and wisdom. I’ll enjoy reading it as soon as I’ve received meaning today. Inspirated I decided to use some watercolors to my favorite pages! Thank you for your art.

I read it in twenty minutes and was left uninspired and disappointed. This is four very short essays spread out into a book. The font used was one of those "handwriting" ones in all caps and hard to read. The pencil sketch illustrations took up the majority of the space on most pages. Not much content.

Yes this book is a very quick read. Everyone is going to have a different metric for what is "worth the money" to them. Personally, I loved this book and will be buying 3 more copies.I have three kids, aged 21, 19, and 16. They are each very creative, with different artistic strengths (writing, visual art, and music, respectively). They all have dreams of doing what they love as a means to support themselves. They will each be getting a copy for Christmas this year.

This is a book that you can read quickly and yet spend a lifetime thinking about. Like most of Gaiman’s work (and I’ve been following him since the Sandman days), the text in here goes much, much deeper than what’s printed on the pages. Combined with Riddell’s sketches this book is a work of art itself, and like all “good art” it is definitely worth experiencing.

This beautiful book, with illustrations, succinctly narrates the author's travails and successes. It encourages any/all would-be artists (writers, specifically, but also intimated for any artistic career) to be true to themselves at all times. It's a wonder to read as it outlines methods for commercial success with personal gratification. Every current and future writer or anyone in any other professional field should read this book. It makes you glad you read it!

A quick read with inspiring insight. The images contribute rather than distract. Familiar Gaiman pieces reimaged with Chris Riddell's gift for simple lines and whimsical images.
