This was the first Damron Guide that I've bought in about 10 years. I was honestly a bit disappointed. The guide is about half the size of what it used to be. I realize that it must be very hard to keep up to date on the bars, but I travel and know this is out of date. Damron still includes "cruise areas" which are basically the city parks or a truck stop. Who actually hangs out in parks for hooking up anymore? Grindr pretty much eliminated the need to risk that. And they also list the adult book stores and porn outlets. It would be nice to see Damron modernize a bit.If you travel a lot this might be a nice quick reference, but you can find everything in here with a quick Google search. I do think it's fun to flip through cities and see what kind of bar scene they offer, but if you don't like gay bars then this will essentially be useless to you.

If you are looking for an in depth description and pictures of places this is the WRONG book, look for something else. You'd probably find more details and more fun information on a LGBT magazine or website. I wouldn't have spent the money if I had seen it in a bookstore. It would be better described as a POCKET quick reference than an actual TRAVEL GUIDE.

It's much thinner than years past. Not sure it's fully tracking everything like it used to. For years it was superior to Spartacus but it now seems Spartacus is the definitive guide.

Along with Spartacus, The Damron Guide has been a friendly and dependable guide for years. The recent edition, slimmer than past ones, remains invaluable and easy-to-use. They're to be commended what with diffficult economic circumstances from Japan to Greece. The new book makes the very best of the situation as they will continue to do well when the recession finally lifts. We pick up the Damron Guide each year whether we're travelling or not. Indeed, we "staycationed" this year as we live in the Palm Springs area already.

These books are pretty much up to date when you visit a city or country. It is always possible that a bar or disco may have closed; however, it gets you, the visitor, into the right section of town to find your enjoyment. It also describes the establishments hours, who they attract, addresses and phone numbers, and places of interest throughout the area.Damron is the best book out there for the gay traveler

I wasn't impressed and I've been using such guides 50 yrs. and the '14-'15 edition's only two thirds of what it used to be. If the proper forum doesn't exist, someone invent it. I refer to men who want spontaneous impersonal trade so rare nowadays, except CL. Too homogenized, too painterly.

wished it had more places around here for me. It would be nice if it had massage guys in too.

Anyone who has read Dorothy Sayers' mysteries featuring Lord Peter Wimsey should not be surprised that she seriously studied the roles assumed by people in her world and how those roles were viewed. She was one of the first women to graduate from Oxford and pursued goals that were not usually thought of as feminine. In the two essays in this 69-page pamphlet, Sayers responds to the idea that there are women's roles and men's roles.In Sayers' mind, being human was more important than being female or male. Based on that concept, she felt that individuals should pursue employment that best suits them without regard to societally based roles. In spite of progress that has been made since her day (these essays were originally published in a work titled Unpopular Opinions, copyright 1947) the subject is still of interest today. As far as women have come in the more than 60 years, there is still much discussion about whether or not women should enter traditionally male employment.What makes the idea of gender-specific roles almost laughable is that most of the male-dominated roles were originally those of women, from cooking to planting to serving at table. Her view of the history of these ideas has to make anyone pause and consider how much things have changed and whether assigning gender roles has truly been overcome.

Being a fan of Sayers' Lord Peter stories for many years, I decided to try her essays too. "Are Women Human?" consists of two essays--the title essay and another called "Human Not-Quite-Human." Both are well-written, and more importantly, well-reasoned. Reading her I found myself smacking my head more than once and thinking "Why did I never think of that? It makes such sense!" Sayers' arguments are both to the point and made with humor. She makes her points from history and from the Bible, and her warnings against generalizing are excellent. Not all men are the same. How can all women be? This is an easy, fun read from which one can take away a lot of excellent ideas.

A thought provoking pair of essays about a "women's" role. Written a couple of generations ago, it is still pertinent today. As a man who works in what was traditionally a women's field, I can appreciate where she is coming from.

Dorothy L. Sayers states Jesus' treatment of women so eloquently and objectively. There is a unique relationship Jesus had with women, and as much as some sects of religion try to downplay it, it will always shine through. Jesus valued women for more than their bodies, more than their gender, more than their motherhood and more than their housekeeping abilities. The church tries to limit women in so many ways, but hopefully they will see how much Jesus valued women and stop their segregation, pigeonholing, and putting women in ineffective boxes.

In Dorothy Sayers book "Are Women Human," which was a short story on how women were treated in England in the early 1900s. It was her thoughts on gender notions and how women were treated in society, but asserting why she was not a feminist to the cause. She argues that women and men are all humans that have the same needs, or different ones depending upon the individual. However, nevertheless it shows how women are associated and still compared to our male counter parts. Miss Sayers continues the argument that women and men are all humans that have the same needs, or different ones depending upon the individual. It's ok to have a certain amount of classification, which is necessary and presents no harm in doing so.In her second short story entitled "The Human-Not-Quite-Human, she focused on women acting more like men than anything else. She compared the human factor of Vir being the male, Femina the female and Homo being both male and female. She described that men have always dealt with Vir and Homo while women only dealt with Femina.Sayers argue the point that men (Vir) have always demanded that women (Femina) shall act lady like at all times; regardless if she's engaged or in a Homo relation or not. Men have always been attracted to women and will appropriate it without any regard to having scruples. Based on her concept of this last statement; it still holds true within today's society. However, if women acted as such; she labeled them as being unworthy or a scamp.Overall, both short stories were amusing and delightfully funny as Sayers poked fun about being human. Reading this book provided some insight on how things were then and now. It's worth reading.

Bear is director of the Duffelmeyer Reading Clinic in the School of Education, Iowa State University, where he and his students teach and assess students who experience difficulties learning to read and write. My problem with the book is the publisher, but Amazon needs to be aware of the problem. This book has an online component. The online information was not accessible due to a faulty access code given at the back of the book. After 2 hours on the phone with Pearson, the publishers would not honor the purchase of the book and give me a correct code because Amazon was a third party purchase.

Loving the new Common Core Update. I do miss having just a disc with all the word sorts. Not a fan of accessing the website and only having access for a year with the program.

Hmmm - This is really a very formal tool and research document for teachers rather than something that can easily translate into home work exercises. I'm not really someone who returns books, but I can also tell that I will not be able to use this with my 10.5 year old, nor will her tutor readily be able to incorporate lessons in it. I did not fully read the book, but I'm also not inspired to do so.

This book is amazing and has a ton of resources, I wish it had ways to help you record data from the interventions it gives you. I also wish i could change my rented book into a purchased book without having to send it back and reorder it.

An essential purchase for those using this method to teach reading. I had already picked up the word sort texts from another vendor, but this text provides vital instructor support. I would have preferred an instructor access code,however, instead of the student access code provided. Since the student online toolkit provides a generous assortment of games, assessments, videos, and additional resources, I didn't pursue the matter any further. Overall, an excellent resource for tutoring or teaching reading to elementary and middle school students.

I purchased this for a college course but now use it all the time as a new teacher to assess my students weekly. Kids like the online sorting games and is easy to use. I am a special education teacher and teach using alternate curriculum with CCEE standards. I have seen improvement with my students who are labeled as CD. Not just for regular education!

Felt like there were so little differences between the last edition and this one. Disappointed.

Overly complicated and the CD's only work on certain computers. I have two running the same OS and the CD's only worked on one of them. I'm sure it's great and worth the time for a large class but for a home schooler of 1 child it's not. I would save your money and just download the evaluation pages for free from any number of sitests and then use that to decided what workbook to use. Also the suggested sorting and games can be found freely on many homeschooling blogs.

I heard a radio interview with the author and got captivated by the theme and his research. I am really enjoying the book. It is an easy and well documented narrative of a difficult period in American, and I was surprised how present and strong the Nazi ideology was in the US in the period before WWII. The author is also excellent in waving those facts and menaces with what is going on presently in the US.

Bradley Hart’s Hitler’s American Friends plays fast and loose with facts as he comes to numerous conclusions unsupported by his research. For example, in his Afterword, Hart states that millions of Americans supported pro-German causes before the Second World War. His text, on several occasions, states that membership in pro-German organizations was difficult to determine but likely numbered in the tens-of-thousands – not millions. Hart’s hyper-focus on anti-Semitism is likely responsible for his skewing of the numbers. Moreover, comparisons of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and American talk radio to Nazism are off-putting, off-topic, and historically do not make a meaningful contribution.

I bought this because of the good reviews but never finished reading it. The author comes to conclusions for me, when I prefer to come to my own conclusions. I shouldn't be surrised, the news does this, too.

The history about Hitler.

In 1941, the country was divided. Some people supported Hitler, some wanted to avoid war, and some wanted to support Britain. The opening to Hart’s book details the three perspectives on WWII. I found it fascinating. Being too young to remember the news, I found that there were many things I had missed in the lead up to WWII.Britain assuredly wanted the support of the US and had agents, including those from IM6, operating in the country. What I didn’t realize was how organized the Nazis were in the US. Hart’s chapters discuss the Nazi organizations that were in the US prior to WWII. They include information of the Bund, a primarily German organization; the Silver Legion; The Religious Right, primarily Father Coughlin’s Christian Front; senators who supported Nazi Germany to keep the US out of the war; businessmen who supported the Nazis for profit; students who were sucked into the Nazi propaganda through their universities; America First, which supported Charles Lindberg; and the spies who stole military secrets to support the German regime.The book is easy to read and is supported by copious research. If you’re interested in the pre-WWII era in the US, you will enjoy this book. I found it particularly interesting because I didn’t realize how divided the US was prior to WWII. One tends to think of the divides of one’s own era, but this book suggests that we have always been a people who think for themselves which leads to social divides.I recommend this book. It’s well written; we’ll researched; and will give you a view of America at at another crossroads.I received this book form Net Galley for this review.

This book is composed of seven chapters with each concentrating on a specific group (Amereica First, Politicians, The Bund, etc.). I have some knowledge of Nazi sympathizers in the United States leading up to and during World War II, but as promised by he author there is substantial new material that I was not aware of occuring during this time period. The book is well documented and the author's writing style makes it easy to follow. I appreciate his devoting a single chapter to each group rather than bouncing around between groups which I have run across in the past with other history based books. The author was also able to present the material without moralizing the subject which I also appreciated.I recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the events leading up to and during World War II in the United States.I received a free Kindle copy of Hitler's American Friends by BradleyW. New York, N.Y.I just returned two library books when I decided to check out the new non-fiction book section. I spotted Hart’s book. The cover had a photo of a 1937 Bund rally with a crowd of average looking Americans gathered around two very large flags hanging next to each other. One was the U.S. Stars and Strips. The other was the German Nazi flag.I knew there were Americans, including famous ones like Charles Lindbergh, Henry Ford, and Prescott Bush father and grandfather of two U.S. Presidents, who supported Hitler. But I didn’t know much more.The book chapters are organized by the organizations and groups that supported the Nazis. There are three chapters on the major pro-Nazi groups - the Bund, the Silver Legion and the Chief, and the largest and most successful, America First, the name President Trump has adopted for his administration.There is a chapter on the religious right which has a long history of supporting dictators past (e.g., Hitler, Mussolini) and present (e.g., Putin, Bolsonaro). There are also chapters on Senators, Businessmen, Students, and Spies. Each chapter starts in the 1930s and moves to the early 1940s.Don’t ignore the Introduction that summarizes the era and sets the stage for the following chapters. The Afterword reveals what happened to the main characters after the war.It is hard to not recognize the parallels to our current state of affairs. The big difference is that America First was never able to elect a President and there was no Fox News. Nor have we experienced a Pearl Harbor that sent the Nazi sympathizers of that era into hiding.

The book does not attempt to give a theory about how institutions influence development or how institutions itself evolve, but it shows that these are very interesting and potentially very important questions to answer.For someone out of the legal profession, this book also provides the very necessary basic knowledge in balanced width and depth. I love Sandra Day. I love the simple language and easy way she eases the non-lawyer into her love of the Constitution and the beauty of the structure of our law. I love her voice. She does a wonderful job of narrating her own book. She's relaxing to listen to and she presents the material as if she were reading to a group of elementary school students. Oddly, this doesn't feel at all condescending. In fact, she presents her material and her remarkably high position with shock and awe and such humility that doesn't seem to be talking down to anyone. She simply shares with the listener her love of the law and her admiration for the Constitution and the great Justices that came before her and those that she worked with.This is wonderful book for a non-lawyer.

I found Justice O'Connor's views on the law, the constitution, legal and Supreme Court history and the evolution of civil and women's rights to be entertaining, enlightening and engaging. The writing style is easy to read, the insights thought provoking, and the book a great read for anyone interested in the Supreme Court.

The Majesty of the Law is a book that brings out the thinking of the first women Justice of the Supreme Court but also it is a clear description of "gender discrimination". Justice O'Connor's 2 books were mentioned by C.J. Kite. After Justice O'Connor's address, which convinced me that Justice O'Connor is the "Best of the Best," I decided to get the book from Amazon for my Kindle. Each chapter stands on it's own as an applause to her contributions to this country. Anyone who wants to learn why she refers to it as "The Majesty of the Law" should read this book.

A disappointment. Hoped to get an inside view of " behind the scenes" relationships of the SC Justices. Also wanted more description of personal conflicts affecting decisions....instead...it focused mostly on "law"... Quite a vanilla flavored is closure. Well written but not interesting.
