As a male who has personally struggled against the idea of whether prostitution is moral or not, this book has served its purpose of clarifying my ethical standings. After reading this book, it has become crystal clear to me that prostitution is an evil force that must be done away with at once. I am not a puritan, nor a religious fanatic, just a man with plain common sense that read a book from someone who has been there and is articulating her story. Now, before I go into the insights I have gained from this book, I would like to thank Rachel Moran for aiding in my personal development and contributing to human society with her wonderful work in this book.The book is not perfect by any means, but it is a wonderfully written and enjoyable piece. I read it in 4 days. Despite the mental and physical hardship she's endured, Rachel has managed to write a book that is very insightful and much better written than many books & articles I have read from Columbia or Stanford graduates.Now without further ado, let me list the key insights I have obtained from this book. They are not the only insights one can gain, but those are the ones that spoke to me the most.1) Prostitution promotes secrecy. A very bad psychological habit for both parties engaging in the act.2) Homelessness is often the introductory road to prostitution. Homeless is a particularly harsh condition, one can understand why women resort to selling themselves as a means of escaping homelessness. Prostitution is therefore mainly a substitution for complete poverty.3) Prostitution is paid rape, or paid to be sexually used. This stroke a deep chord with me by the way, because I never saw it that way.4) The transaction occurring during the act of prostitution is not occurring between two equal parties. In essence, the male with monetary, educational, and social access is exploiting the female who lacks these resources to fulfill his sexual gratifications.5) Prostitutions hate their clients. They pretend to like them so that the act can be more tolerable for the Johns (another word for clients)6) Males who engage in buying prostitutes are psychologically training themselves to be sexually abusive to women whether they know it or not7) A society that legalizes prostitution obscures moral boundaries within the collective, I found this remark to be very important.8) Current legislation against prostitution are not to ban prostitution but mainly to move it indoors, away from public view.9) Prostitution massacres the body, soul, and mind of the women who do it. The "Happy Hooker" story is a myth.10) Men need a lot of education on the subject if this problem is to ever done with completely.The book is simply spectacular. It is well written, describes graphical details, is packed with real emotions, and provides a glimpse of hope for the future. I hope to meet and fund Rachel Moran one day. She has an organization called SPACE (Survivors of Prostitution-Abuse Calling for Enlightenment).. I'll definite write her a check if God gives me the chance.Conclusion: Book is amazing, buy it now and support this brave woman!

This is the best book on Prostitution that I have ever read. However,This book not only meets that standard, It is by far the Best book I have ever read. This should be required reading in a multitude of classes on Social Policy as well as topics in Therapy such as Therapuetic Process designed to heal from various abuses. First Ms. Moran describes her inner life as a child and then traces her inner life all the way through her life and through the book and in doing so opens up answers to all the questions anyone would have ever had about what prostitutes deal with and REALLY go though in the work they do night and day. Spoken with candor, transparency, depth of feeling and awareness, and sensitivity, Ms. Moran cannot help but look around to find multitudes of supporters and allies in anyone who reads this book.. As a social worker, this book has given me new life in areas of interest I have already had. As a woman this book has offered many areas of self reflection about past relationships and levels of behavioral dysfunction that women learn to tolerate and how in our psyche this is done. This book is not written with any "bias" or with any hidden agenda but answers a need in myriad areas of cross disciplinary discussion, knowledge and policymaking. OUTSTANDING and EXCELLENT. I recommend this to everyone I know.

This is a book that every father should buy for his son on his 21st birthday. Ms. Moran’s treatment of this highly misunderstood flaw in men’s psychies, that has existed for literally hundreds of years, is nothing short of riveting. If you are looking for a book that reveals highly sexual content then go somewhere else as Ms Moran only, and rarely, shares these details to make her point that prostitution is an evil, vile imposition on women, no matter how it is served up. A very brave work by a women who hundreds of men should have loved, not violated. Yes, prostitution is a choice, but so is jumping off of a bridge ...a choice only made by people who have been through so much emotional and psychological abuse that it actually appears to be a solution.

This tome reads like a Pulitzer pride winner. Rachel start out in her childhood, & on and why,she had to see herself.what her limited options for a girl from a broken home.I am Rooting for her gradual success and I mourn, her bad plans, too.Talk about the strength of the human condition.It’s set in Ireland. It is a heavy read, due to lots of characters, and scene-setips. Force yourself to stick with us, I am happy I perserved.this is a sad but very prevalent problem since the dawn of time. I read it in 2 settings and its worth! A headache.Your heart will break,but all for the Right, reasons. A real Triumph.buy this book, ok??!!!

What a brave, strong, intelligent woman Rachel Moran is. Her personal account of life as a prostitute and the industry itself, is insightful and very revealing. She pulls no punches in this account. At times I found myself close to tears, at others almost gagging with revulsion. Some of the experiences she recounted filled me with anger that flared into rage. The commodification of women and the degradation they're subjected to within prostitution is shown in vivid detail. The attitudes of the 'punters' is truly stomach churning. This book doesn't make comfortable reading, but I believe it is an important work that SHOULD be read by men and women alike.

This is an important look at prostitution. Moran shatters stereotypes and introduces new ways to think about this exploitation. She uses her own experience in prostitution, stories from other prostituted individuals, and extensive research to explain entering this industry, the effects of prostitution on the body and mind, interactions with others, the struggle to emerge from prostitution, and many other topics. The book is well organized and easy to follow. It is not an easy read emotionally and forces the read to confront this topic and all of its ugliness, but it is a very important, unique work.

This novel kept me reading until the wee hours of the night. It is beautifully researched and a fabulous period novel. The character of Eve is especially strong. This novel shows how Eve blooms under severe hardship and help from the Lord above stairs. It shows how the above stairs folks begin to learn that those of the " lower" classes can be bright, resourceful, and remarkable. I highly recommend this book.

The setting was interesting. I found the story line too predictable and the characterizations somewhat cookie cutter, stereotypical ...Aa romance cloaked as historical fiction

The author drew me into the book immediately. Her descriptions of each character quickly established them in my mind. The one word that describes her writing style is "comfortable" - I felt like I was like sitting down with the author sharing a cup of tea each afternoon. I'm already into her second book, "Ravenscliff."

The characters in Netherwood are very engaging and believable, and the historical detail is fascinating. It's an upbeat story that focuses on people's ability to make life-affirming choices even in the midst of hardship.

I loved Downton Abbey and wish this could be shown as that was. It's well written and holds your interest in an enjoyable way The writer lets you learn to know and feel a part of life in the mining estates and villages at that time. I'm in the next book in this series, Ravenscape, and know I won't want to leave whenever the final one ends.

I would recommend Netherwood to anyone who likes English historical novels. It is slightly similar to Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs. It is very well written - better than the usual standard of this type of novel, with excellent grammar and spelling, which to me is very important. The story keeps moving along at a good pace, with lots of interesting twists and turns in the lives of the main characters, and never gets boring. I enjoyed it so much I didn't really want the story to end, so I was very pleased when I discovered there was a sequel, which I ordered and started reading straight away!

Good historical novel - I like fairly light interesting historical novels and this one did not disappoint. I enjoyed the characters and writing. The main character is widowed and opens a small food service in her mining community. There are some problems of course. Not real deep, but enjoyable reading. I got the next book in the series already.

I LOVE this series. Waiting for a book 4 now, although no signs of it. First and Second were really riveting. Book 3 Eden Falls, also good, just since it is often in Jamaica, a bit different than first two that filled my Downton Abbey empty 'spot.'

This book is in no way shape or form about clearing your mind. This book is in no way designed to get your brain to work faster on a deeper level. It's just a combination of some Mnemonic techniques and mental math to save you some time on studying and the easier math you would use a calculator for.The first 75 pages are him droning on about making your brain more efficient, but not covering any techniques. I could give a break down of the book and how many extra pages there were, but that would give the book more time than it deserves. Lets just say that maybe 50 pages of this 350 page book provided any content(and not even that good of content).The author also hates referencing things. The only people who get to avoid referencing are memory masters like Dominic O'Brien who are 8 time world memory champions. I mention O'brien because his Brilliant Memory book is a good piece to contrast with. His book was all technique and almost no filler. This book on the other hand is almost all filler and the Mnemonics are only average.If you want to clear your mind and work in your minds optimal zone, then pick up a book like Deep Work by Cal Newport which will talk about the difference between a walk in the park and a walk in a busy city, the effects of media and multitasking, and the value of letting yourself be bored.This is all around a wasted read.

Personally, I've started alphabetizing letters in common words and dividing by 91 just for fun. I create stories in my mind when I go to the grocery store to remember my list. It's exciting to think what improvements I'll make over time by trying his different exercises. If only I could take a photo of the sock drawer in my head!

I was so excited to read this book! I am 47 and I am always lookingfor great ways to exercise my brain and this is the "Buns of Steel" forthe brain! This book is a smooth read which challenges one to thinkoutside of the box and dares you to use your brain in fun ways! Icompletely enjoyed Mr. Byster's passion for the topic and I think hehas wise and useful tips that when used more than once can keep themind more productive and helps to flex the most important muscle ofall! People don't just exercise once and expect to be fit and it islogical that the brain needs to be worked out to keep it fit and productive!.

This book is fun, it makes me feel smarter, and I'm sharing a lot of it with my kids. The practical examples are very useful and the writing style is very approachable. I love the insights Byster provides that I can use daily to work on the skills he teaches. I am curious if the author does any speaking for large groups as I'd like to invite him to speak to my company.

In this book, the authors weave a tapestry of Appalachian music that is very colorful and very beautiful. This tapestry begins with strands of fiber spun in Scotland and Ireland. During the centuries long voyage across the Atlantic, strands of fiber are added. After becoming Americans, Appalachian residents continued to contribute additional strands of fiber of various colors. The authors of this book describe how all of these strands have been woven into this beautiful tapestry.This book is beautifully illustrated and is divided into three main divisions--Beginnings, Voyage, and Singing a New Song. Each division is comprised of Sidebars and Voices of Tradition. This format and the photographs, paintings and illustrations make the book very interesting and enjoyable. This format also makes the book easy to read "a little at a time".I found the extensive timeline in the back of the book to be very helpful and referenced it periodically. Twenty songs on a CD included with the book greatly complement the text .Tom Newhouse

I first saw this book displayed in a Black Mt., NC bookstore and I realized that this is a book that should be a part of my Scots-Irish collection of books. The Ulster-Scots (who settled the back country) came to this country in the 1700s form the backbone of American country music. This book helps one understand the roots of "mountain music." The southern mountain folks of our country seem to possess a certain type of "white soul" with which to create their own brand of music. I always thought there must be something about living in the mountains of VA, NC, TN etc that caused these people to create this soulful music. The beauty of the mountains is part of the story but this book will inform you that the key ingredient is the Scots-Irish people themselves. I'm proud to be one of them. Roll on.

This is a wonderful book, about the history and heritage, that can be found in Appalachia. The accompanying CD is also outstanding. I have lived in the foothills of this region and heard most of the songs mentioned in the book, but this has made me see things a bit differently, especially as a collector of this music. It also has me wanting to restart the search to find out more about my family's own connections, not only to Appalachia, but also Scotland and Ireland as well. It has a wealth of information about the region(s), and the politics at the time, and how all of that helped to shape these people and their songs, as well as how the African music and traditions helped to shape this music and songs, and how they in turn became part of the American tradition. And the CD really adds something to the overall experience. The book also gives advice about collecting this music and keeping these traditions alive. I highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in this music and the region itself.

This is a lovely book. One side of my family came from Scotland and Ireland, I was part of the folk music revival of the early 1960s, and my wife and I have traveled in much of the geography the book covers. Names were familiar, songs were familiar. In fact, it got us listening to Gaelic radio on the internet! The reason the book didn't get five stars from me was that it seemed to ramble excessively (like the people the author was writing about), and I found it difficult to find places to stop reading so I could put the book down. I know the current style is for lots of sidebars, but it's not a style I'm comfortable reading because I get distracted on sidebars and lose the thread of the overall narrative. This is my problem; for you it might very well be a five star read.

I've had an dormant interest in traditional Scottish & Irish music for some years now but this book has awakened an urge to play the music more often & to explore the links into Old Timey, Bluegrass etc. The book is highly readable & the journey through time brought the people, their experiences & their music to life.

This is an informative and enjoyable book. However, while the physical book is accompanied by an essential CD containing some of the music referred to in the book, the Kindle version is completely silent--no music. So don't buy the electronic version.

If you are a 'folky', or traditional music fan. . . . . this is a superb book and CD!! Well written, and documented with real life interviews with traditional artists. Detailed historical background, and good use of actual song lyrics to illustrate significant historical events! Some of the colored landscape photos are a bit disappointing! They should have used larger format cameras for sharper details. . . . . in such a well produced book! Everything else was top notch!

What a wonderful book! Over the years I've learned so much from listening to Fiona Ritchie and her Thistle and Shamrock radio program; so nice to have a book version to peruse at my leisure. Extra-added bonus: a great CD is included with the book, with some great musical selections. I highly recommend this book - and I highly recommend Fiona Ritchie's Thistle and Shamrock radio program on NPR.

I was happy to see that a book had been written to honor Harvey Milk. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting his nephew at Gay Pride in Bisbee, Arizona, in 2014.

Great for around ages 6-10. Simple and positive message of working to make the world a better place. Excellent way of introducing topics of social justice and discrimination.

Great illustrations and a wonderfully written children's book! I bought this book for my son's second grade (probably better suited in terms of reading level for third or fourth grade but still worked quite well) book report on a historical figure. He thoroughly enjoyed it and learned a great deal. I highly recommend this book for children!

This book is an excellent resource for all elementary school teachers. The book is well written and beautifully illustrated. As an elementary school teacher I highly recommend this book to teach young children about courage, tolerance, and the tragic consequences of homophobia and hate. What a great resource to celebrate Harvey Milk Day on May 22! A must have for every elementary school and classroom.

Bought this for a friend of mine, and she really liked it. The story line isn't watered down at all, and is much more detailed then one would expect from a children's book. The illustrations are very well done with a water coloured look to them. All in all and very good addition to any fan of civil rights, fans of Harvey Milk, and a great way to introduce children to peoples inequalities.

Where I can see how "people" would like to promote this book as part of their alternate-lifestyle agenda, it hardly speaks generally and rarely includes a broad-spectrum of kids. What I mean is, unless a child is struggling with homosexual tendencies and wants to become a political figure, this book offers little to no insight as to how one can overcome being extremely different than most, but still become successful. It does clearly try to introduce to very young children ideas about sexuality that they shouldn't even be discussing for a few more years, much less in a healthy way. Nice try (i guess) but considering Harvey Milk's checkered past and being considered a teen predator , I think perhaps the gay community should embrace a more wholesome "leader" to push its agenda.With that said, the book was illustrated well and it was written in a way to engage its target market.

Harvey Milk was the LAST person I'd want to introduce a child to, especially a male child.

Holy cheet....mind blown. Only downside is, I could only understand half this book. But it was an awesome half. If you're really gifted in math, you can understand it all. I also had no interest in drawing the sacred geometry it guides you to, but its cool they teach you how to do it. The philosophy, history, and the math(that I could understand) of whats discussed in this book are pretty mind blowing in my opinion. For sure a good buy. Highly recommend.

Wow! This book is definitely an eye-opener and mind-blower that will probably cause a paradigm shift in the way you perceive the world and our universe. Robert Lawlor is a careful and tremendously insightful teacher with a very deep understanding of our reality.

The Kindle version is virtually unreadable as a required academic reading. The subscript for the images is mixed in with the book text and there is no indication of the chapters you are reading or in.

I was hoping for an elementary introductory to this subject matter but instead I found it challenging to keep up with.

Sacred Geometry was a text for the New Chartres School sponsored by Wisdom University in Chartres, France July 3-9.The book illuminated most of the geometrically related information which we experienced hands-on in our class withRichard Henry, British Geometrist. Richard led in making multi-dimensional shapes from point to dodecahydron andbeyond! These forms were described and attributed historically, illustrated and defined for construction in thebook which is comprehensive for understanding, making and looking at geometry relationally. It is an essentialasset in the study of Geometry. I love this book and will share it with friends new to its information.Lynne Z

This is a newer edition with the same text and visuals inside but lacks the classic cover of earlier editions. This book is a helpful companion to exploring natural symbology and mathematic underpinnings of some of the foundational architecture and design work in classical humanities. Buy the older edition if you want this to show off, but this edition has the same interior text.

Kind of an amazing book, really, though the math exercises were a challenge for me (math is my worst subject). Still, any serious student of reality and the occult should understand these principles which relate in depth to the formation of all reality, the matrix, synchronicity, and more. If you are a student of Gnosis, Templar, Rosicrucian, or other esoteric practices, or merely working through your parallel lives and realities using ancient technologies in these modern times, you will love this book. The book will remind you of the essential importance of the Golden mean ratio and likely increase meaningful coincidences related to your Soul purpose. Really excellent. Lots of practical exercises and great pictures. So many things clearly explained all in one reasonably priced volume. Perfect if you are a Waldorf teacher for digging into the Seventh Grade geometry block or High School Sacred Geometry. Highly recommended!

I really prefer Dancers Among Us, and not because this is "nudity". While this collection had some beautiful pictures, it was all very "pose-y" in comparison to the first collection because they insisted on covering genitalia. I would've loved to see the dancers truly uninhibited, but I suppose a penis or vagina aren't high brow enough. With everything so staged, I think Dancers After Dark just didn't have the same magic,

The book has a good concept, with dancers staged theatrically in front of architectural landmarks or interesting spots. The dancers are pretty average as dancers go. IF you are using it for references though, I would not pick this book because the lighting washes out the dancers bodies to look flat, and most of the pictures, in order to show the scale of the environment, make the dancers out to be very small in the picture. Other than that, the composition of the dancers is great.

NZ, Australia, Indonesia, Africa, Russia, Japan, ...Nice to see explanations of how the dancers were staged, prepared, lit, focus, cropped, ...My favorite is the woman dancer in CA coast at sunset - beautiful setting (beach / rocks / water), sunset colors, dancer pose and poise, ...

Even though the pictured dancers are in superb physical shape, it’s amazing none were injured while striking the athletic poses in, on and around the locations used in the book. Even more amazing, the often quickly-posed photos don’t reveal a single crotch, male or female!The photos are roughly half color, half black & white. Both work and reproduction is excellent. A number of photos are printed across the binding, but generally this doesn’t detract from the image – kudos to the art director. My only complaint, probably echoed by many buying the book, is that it’s too small. Howard Schatz’ similarly-themed “Passion & Line” is a majestic 11x14” and printed on heavy stock. “Dancers After Dark” deserves to be printed larger than a textbook.

Jordan Matter is insane. He is also brilliant, and he knows an awful lot of talented, beautiful, equally insane dancers. And he convinced them to go out into the streets of major cities with him, after dark, and strike stunning poses with no clothes on.They only had one near encounter with police, Matter said, and it ended well.I love this book so much. This is a photography book where it looks like EVERYBODY had fun.These images are amazing. People hanging from lampposts, playing in civic fountains, creating multi-person artistic formations under street lights, and all of it conveying the sheer joys of expressing yourself and getting away with it.You should also check out his site and his YouTube channel for behind-the-scenes videos of some of the shoots.

This is so much more than just a book of pretty pictures. Jordan Matter's photos come alive as you gaze at them; the sheer power of their beauty is mesmerizing. It is difficult to tear oneself away from one, only to be equally transported by the next. The imagination of the photographer, combined with the extraordinary physical qualities of his subjects and their environments, create an equation that is at once stunning and thought-provoking. I have just received this book, and have already spent much time reflecting on it: reviewing the compositions, the nature of the light, and the stark and splendid results that Jordan has captured.This book would be an amazing gift for anyone who dances, travels, appreciates beauty, moves, or even just breathes.

I had been watching Jordan's instagram posts for a while so i had an idea what i was in store for, but was blown away with the final results.Ordered the hard cover which comes with an ice sleeve as well. All the pictures are very well done, many are in NYC and many are overseas as well. The pictures are amazing and have a wide variety of scenes. Anywhere from sleek urban settings, to ice water in Colorado. Its also interesting that he time stamps the pictures, so in the city pics you have an idea what would be going on at that time.

Wonderful book. Jordan Matter is amazingly talented. My only complaint is why would Amazon send a softcover book in a plastic bag?? The mailman folded it to fit in the mailbox. Had I not checked the mailbox shortly after it was delivered, the cover would have been ruined.
